Perspectives on Leadership: Dominic Skerritt, WG ’12, Service Leadership (All Students)

Hear leadership lessons from Dominic Skerritt (WG ’12), who will share his experience in dedicating his life to service and transforming enemies into allies during his time in Afghanistan. Dominic served as a platoon and company commander in the Australian Army's parachute battalion, as an intelligence officer in China and Australia, underwent special forces training in China with the People's Liberation Army and supported Chinese counter-terrorism planning for the Beijing Olympics. In 2008 and 2009, Dominic deployed to Afghanistan to work with Afghan community leaders and interdict bomb-making cells.

Hosted by the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, Citibank Community Development, the Nonprofit Center at LaSalle University School of Business, and the University of Pennsylvania, this conference will explore how nonprofit professionals from different generations address similar issues in their own ways. Research indicates that there is a significant amount of similarity between generations in terms of what they value. Yet, we often view the world, communicate, and find community in vastly different ways. How do we learn each other’s language and talk across generations in a way that clarifies real distinctions and promotes camaraderie?
