Completely disconnected from the world, (the Tall Ships Venture) allowed me the time, safety and challenge to explore leadership in an ambiguous situation.
We are constantly striving to innovate new opportunities for students to learn more about their own leadership potential as well as that of their peers.
Leadership Ventures
Wharton Leadership Ventures – Undergraduate
The Undergraduate Leadership Ventures provide a set of engaged, hands-on experiences for exploring and mastering the capabilities for effective individual and team leadership in business and beyond. They are intended to assist participants in improving their capacities to think strategically, communicate effectively, and act decisively. Ventures are designed to foster forward thinking, a bias for action, risk awareness, and fast decisions. The longer ventures (Grand Teton Mountaineering and Patagonian Trek) include social impact projects designed to heighten cultural understanding and assist local communities.
Wharton Leadership Ventures – MBA
The MBA Leadership Ventures are optional co-curricular experiential learning opportunities designed to bring participants into remote and difficult environments where they can learn from experience in confronting challenges, solving problems, and leading teams. We do this by providing a foundation for individual, small group, and community-level learning by structuring periods of personal reflection and guided discussion around specific activities. Key topics such as leadership and followership, group decision-making processes, stages of group development, and managing ambiguity are explored using daily events as the foundation for learning. In every case, students are expected to act decisively and take accountability for the outcomes of their decisions.
Wharton Leadership Ventures - Alumni
Each year, the Center leads two expeditions attended by executives and Wharton alumni that continue the focus on leadership development. Mastering these abilities is a lifelong endeavor, and both the Leadership Trek to Mt. Everest and the Normandy Leadership Experience provide the opportunity to continue your leadership development, exercise your body and cross-train your mind, and reflect on your leadership with others who share the same concerns. Executives and alumni leave excited and recharged about their opportunities to be better leaders and armed with tools they can use immediately.
