About the Graduate Leadership Program

The Leadership Program provides students with a comprehensive leadership development experience. This is comprised of both in-class and co-curricular activities designed to enhance pre-existing skills while aiding in the formation of new competencies.

The Graduate Leadership Program delivers co-curricular leadership development programming through a number of different programs. Wharton Leadership Ventures are a set of outdoor experiential leadership development opportunities for Wharton MBA students that afford students the opportunity to engage in sets of hands on experiences for exploring and mastering the capabilities for effective individual and team leadership in business and beyond. Using an expeditionary format, teams of student participants are supported in partnership by world-class outfitters and Venture Fellows, 2nd year students trained in expedition leadership and responsible for curriculum design and development.

The Leadership Development Workshop Series presents another set of action-based leadership learning opportunities, using experiential and seminar-based methods to focus on the development of specific leadership skills and competencies. Two newer co-curricular programs, the Leadership Development and Coaching program and the Non-Profit Board Leadership Program, offer students the opportunity to develop awareness at the individual, team, and community levels.

A growing expectation of today's business leaders is that they develop others to become leaders. Transfer of leadership skills through conscious modeling, coaching, mentoring and feedback becomes essential as organizations need leadership from all members.

Increasingly, the business world requires people to work successfully in teams that depend on persuasive rather than positional leadership. The learning team is a laboratory meant to cultivate these leadership skills. A group of five or six students, containing at least 1 female, and usually 2 international students, is randomly assigned to collaborate on assignments throughout the first year.
