| | | The Graduate Leadership Program The Graduate Leadership Program provides students with a comprehensive leadership development experience. This is comprised of both in-class and co-curricular activities designed to enhance pre-existing skills while aiding in the formation of new competencies.
The MBA students are first introduced to the Leadership Program through the Learning Team Retreat. The Retreat, held in a remote location in Upstate New York, introduces students to their Learning Team members in an environment free of distractions where all members are on an equal footing. Students begin the process of team formation and learn to lead in a peer environment throughout the 2-day long program.
Following the Learning Team Retreat, all first year MBA students are required to complete the Management 652 course during their first year. This core course offers an overview of the most current leadership theory. Students are encouraged to discuss these theories through the lens of their practical experience to attain an understanding of the breadth of knowledge and thought on leadership. In addition, students are challenged to explore their personal leadership capacities through compulsory self-assessments such as a Core Values Statement, a 360-degree Feedback Assessment, and a Peer Evaluation Review.
Second-year MBA students mentor Learning Teams throughout their Retreat, Management 652 course, and entire first year. These 2nd year students, called Leadership Fellows, are selected through a rigorous screening process. After selection, they receive extensive training in leadership skill development in areas such as conflict management, facilitation, and delivering effective feedback. These skills are put to use as Leadership Fellows serve as trainers during the Retreat and as Learning Team coaches during the academic year.
Finally, the Leadership Program plays a key role in running the Wharton Leadership Ventures. The program facilitates the design, development and delivery of these co-curricular learning offerings. These programs afford students the opportunity to engage in sets of hands on experiences for exploring and mastering the capabilities for effective individual and team leadership in business and beyond. They are intended to assist participants in improving their capacities to think strategically, communicate effectively, and act decisively.
